bull-baiting
Dogs attacking cattle
Bull-baiting was a blood sport in which dogs were set upon a tethered bull, attacking it while spectators wagered on the outcome.
Popular in England from medieval times until banned in 1835, it gave rise to bulldog breeds selected for their grip and tenacity.
The term now appears mainly in historical contexts.
