breathholding
Lungs temporarily paused
Breathholding is the act of deliberately stopping breathing, whether as a competitive sport, meditation technique, or childhood tantrum tactic.
In diving and swimming, breathholding determines how long one can stay submerged.
Children sometimes hold their breath during tantrums until they turn blue or pass out—a behavior called a breathholding spell.
