brake disc
Wheel's friction surface
A brake disc is a flat, circular metal plate attached to a vehicle's wheel that slows or stops rotation when brake pads clamp against it.
Also called a rotor.
Disc brakes have largely replaced drum brakes on modern cars, especially for front wheels: The mechanic said the brake discs were warped and needed replacing.
