boxfish

Angular reef dweller

A boxfish is a small tropical marine fish with a rigid, boxy body formed by fused bony plates beneath the skin.

The angular shape makes them slow swimmers but difficult for predators to swallow.

Also called trunkfish or cowfish, some species release toxins when stressed.

The aquarium's boxfish hovered near the coral.
