bora

Croatian coastal blast

A bora is a fierce, cold wind that blows down from mountains toward the coast, especially along the Adriatic Sea.

The word comes from the Greek god of the north wind.

Boras are dry and gusty, often reaching gale force in winter: The bora made the harbor too rough for fishing boats.
