osteopenia
Pre-fragility skeletal condition
Osteopenia is a condition of reduced bone density, less severe than osteoporosis but indicating bones weaker than normal.
It often serves as a warning stage—without intervention, osteopenia may progress to osteoporosis.
The condition is typically detected through bone density scans and is most common in postmenopausal women: Her doctor diagnosed osteopenia and recommended calcium supplements.
