bomblets

Small scattered explosives

Bomblets are small explosive submunitions released from a cluster bomb or similar weapon.

A single bomb or artillery shell disperses dozens or hundreds of bomblets over a wide area.

Many fail to detonate on impact, leaving unexploded ordnance that endangers civilians long after conflicts end: Children are still being killed by bomblets dropped decades ago.
