power failure
Lights suddenly out
A power failure is a loss of electrical service, whether affecting a single building or an entire region.
Also called a power outage or blackout.
The term applies regardless of cause—storm damage, equipment failure, or grid overload: The power failure knocked out traffic lights across the city.
