bitmaps
Dot-by-dot images
Bitmaps are digital images stored as grids of pixels, where each pixel's color is recorded individually.
The term contrasts with vector graphics, which store images as mathematical shapes.
Bitmap formats include JPEG, PNG, and BMP.
As a verb, to bitmap is to render something as such an image: The text was bitmapped and lost its crispness when enlarged.
