biochips

Living circuit elements

Biochips are small devices that use biological molecules—typically DNA, proteins, or cells—arranged on a solid surface to analyze biological samples.

A DNA biochip (or microarray) can test for thousands of genetic variations simultaneously.

The term also refers to microchips designed for implantation in living tissue, used for identification in pets or, experimentally, in humans: The dog's biochip contained the owner's contact information.
