binary numbers

Base-two digit strings

Binary numbers are numbers expressed in base-two notation, using only the digits 0 and 1.

Each position represents a power of two rather than ten: the binary number 1011 equals eleven in decimal.

Binary is fundamental to computing because electronic circuits easily represent two states—on and off, true and false.

The computer stores everything as binary numbers.
