whortleberry
Small dark berry
A whortleberry is a small dark berry closely related to the blueberry, found wild in Britain and parts of Europe.
The plant grows low to the ground on heaths and moors.
Also called bilberry or, in some regions, huckleberry—though true huckleberries are a different genus.
We picked whortleberries on the hillside.
