beargrass

Mountain meadow plant

Beargrass is any of several North American plants with tough, grass-like leaves.

The name most commonly applies to a mountain plant with a tall stalk of white flowers, native to the western United States: The alpine meadows were dotted with beargrass.

Other plants called beargrass include yuccas and certain sedges.

The fibrous leaves were traditionally used by Native Americans for weaving.
