backspinning

Spinning in reverse

Backspinning is the act of applying backspin to a ball or other rotating object, causing it to spin in the opposite direction of its forward motion.

In sports like golf, tennis, and pool, backspinning a shot makes the ball stop quickly or even roll backward upon landing or impact.

DJs also use backspinning to manually reverse a record on a turntable, creating that distinctive scratching sound or rewinding to repeat a section of music.
