back line
Last standing defenders
Back line refers to the rear row of players in a formation, especially in sports like volleyball, rugby, or soccer where defensive players hold positions furthest from the opponent's goal.
In volleyball, the back line is also the boundary at the rear of the court: Her serve landed just inside the back line.
The term extends to any rear echelon or support position: The back line of volunteers handled logistics.
