autofire

Hold-to-keep-shooting mode

Autofire is a feature in video games and controllers that allows continuous firing by holding down a button rather than pressing it repeatedly.

The term also applies to weapons capable of automatic fire—shooting continuously while the trigger is held: The rifle has an autofire mode.

In gaming contexts, autofire can be a built-in option or achieved through controller modifications: I turned on autofire for the boss fight.
