au pair
Live-in childminder
An au pair is a young person, typically from a foreign country, who lives with a host family and provides childcare and light housework in exchange for room, board, and a small allowance.
The arrangement combines domestic help with cultural exchange—the au pair learns the language and customs while the family gets affordable assistance.
We hosted an au pair from Germany for a year.
