apartheid laws
Racial separation legislation
Apartheid laws were the system of racial segregation enforced in South Africa from 1948 to 1991.
These laws classified people by race, restricted where non-whites could live and work, prohibited interracial marriage, and denied Black South Africans political rights.
The term now applies broadly to any legal framework of institutionalized racial separation: Critics called the new voting restrictions apartheid laws.
