angioplasties
Vessel-opening heart surgeries
Angioplasties is the plural of angioplasty, a medical procedure that opens blocked or narrowed blood vessels.
A catheter with a small balloon is threaded to the blockage site and inflated to widen the artery, often followed by placing a stent to keep it open.
Most commonly performed on coronary arteries to restore blood flow to the heart: He's had two angioplasties since his heart attack.
