alkaline earths

Group two elements

The alkaline earths are a group of six metallic elements in the second column of the periodic table: beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium.

They share similar chemical properties—forming alkaline (basic) solutions when their oxides react with water.

Calcium and magnesium are the most familiar, essential to bones and abundant in limestone.
