noble gases
Chemically aloof group
Noble gases are the elements in the rightmost column of the periodic table—helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon.
They're called noble because they rarely react with other elements, remaining aloof from chemical bonds that lesser elements form.
This stability makes them useful in lighting, welding, and other applications where reactivity would cause problems.
