airfall

Volcanic debris settling

Airfall refers to material that descends through the air and settles on the ground, particularly volcanic ash and debris ejected during an eruption: The airfall from Mount St. Helens blanketed towns hundreds of miles away.

In geology, airfall deposits are distinguished from material transported by water or pyroclastic flows.

The term also appears in meteorology for precipitation or particulate matter settling from the atmosphere.
