air race
Pilots compete airborne
An air race is a competition in which aircraft race against each other or against the clock over a set course.
Races may involve airplanes, helicopters, or other aircraft navigating pylons, completing laps, or flying point-to-point: The Reno Air Races draw crowds every September.
The term dates to early aviation when such events helped advance aircraft technology.
