White Tower
Castle's central keep
The White Tower is the central keep of the Tower of London, a Norman fortress built by William the Conqueror in the late 11th century.
Its pale stone exterior gives it the name.
The structure has served as royal residence, armory, and prison.
In fantasy literature, notably Tolkien's work and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, white towers appear as seats of power or magical authority.
