Western Pacific

The Western Pacific is the region of the Pacific Ocean nearest Asia and Oceania, encompassing waters from Japan and the Philippines south to Australia and east toward Micronesia.
In military and geopolitical contexts, it often refers to the area of U.S. strategic interest opposite China: The Navy maintains a significant presence in the Western Pacific.
The term also describes a distinct biogeographic and climatic zone.
