Central Pacific
Westward railroad builders
Central Pacific refers to the middle region of the Pacific Ocean, roughly between Hawaii and the International Date Line.
The term appears in meteorology, oceanography, and military history—particularly World War II's Pacific Theater, where Central Pacific operations targeted island chains like the Marshalls and Marianas.
It also names the historic railroad company that built eastward from California to complete the first transcontinental line in 1869.
