Via Egnatia

Balkan Roman road

Via Egnatia was a Roman road that crossed the Balkans, connecting the Adriatic coast to Byzantium (later Constantinople).

Built in the second century BCE, it served as a crucial military and commercial route linking Rome to its eastern provinces.

The road's path roughly parallels modern highways through Albania, North Macedonia, and Greece.
