Watling Street
Ancient British thoroughfare
Watling Street is an ancient Roman road in Britain running from the southeast coast through London to Wales, one of the principal routes of Roman Britain.
The name later applied to the Milky Way in Old English, perhaps from the road's straightness across the land mirroring the galaxy's path across the sky.
Today it survives in street names and as a term for sections of the modern A5 highway: The pub sits on the old Watling Street.
