Valletta

Island nation's capital

Valletta is the capital city of Malta, a small island nation in the Mediterranean Sea.

Built in the sixteenth century by the Knights of St.

John, the fortified city sits on a peninsula between two harbors.

Its name honors Jean de Valette, the grand master who defended Malta against Ottoman siege.

We spent three days exploring Valletta's narrow streets and baroque churches.
