UPC code

Checkout scanner target

UPC code is a Universal Product Code—the barcode printed on retail packaging that identifies products for scanning at checkout.

The term is technically redundant since the C in UPC already stands for code, but UPC code is common in everyday speech: The cashier couldn't scan the UPC code.
