Red Fort

Mughal imperial residence

Red Fort is a massive 17th-century fortification in Delhi, India, built of red sandstone by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

It served as the imperial residence and ceremonial center of the Mughal dynasty.

Today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and national symbol—India's Prime Minister delivers the Independence Day address from its ramparts each August 15.
