TENS
Nerve-stimulating device
Tens can refer to the Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) device, which uses low-voltage electrical currents to relieve pain.
Electrodes are placed on the skin near the pain site, delivering pulses that interfere with pain signals sent to the brain.
TENS units were first developed in the 1970s and are commonly used for chronic pain management, including arthritis and nerve pain.
The intensity, frequency, and duration of the pulses can be adjusted for therapeutic effect.
She used a TENS unit to ease her lower back pain.
