Allied invasion
Beach assault operation
Allied invasion refers to a military operation conducted by alliance forces entering enemy-held territory, most often the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944, when American, British, Canadian, and other forces stormed the beaches of German-occupied France.
The term also applies to other World War II operations: the Allied invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.
Outside the war context, it describes any coordinated military incursion by allied nations.
