Cream-filled spiral cake
A Swiss roll is a thin sponge cake spread with jam or cream, then rolled into a spiral cylinder and sliced crosswise to reveal the swirl pattern.
The American term is jelly roll.
Despite the name, the dessert has no particular connection to Switzerland.
