Saint Francis
Patron of animals
Saint Francis most commonly refers to Saint Francis of Assisi, the 13th-century Italian friar who founded the Franciscan order and is patron saint of animals and the environment.
His legacy appears in place names worldwide, most notably San Francisco.
Other saints share the name, including Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Francis Xavier, but without qualification, Francis of Assisi is assumed.
