SPACs

Reverse merger vehicles

SPACs is the plural of SPAC, a special purpose acquisition company—a shell corporation that raises money through an initial public offering with no existing business operations.

The sole purpose is to acquire or merge with a private company, taking it public without a traditional IPO: SPACs were everywhere during the 2020-2021 market boom.

Also called blank-check companies.
