Queen Isabella
Spain's exploring monarch
Queen Isabella most commonly refers to Isabella I of Castile (1451–1504), the Spanish monarch who with her husband Ferdinand II unified Spain and sponsored Columbus's voyage to the Americas.
The name attaches to several other European queens, but without qualification typically means the Catholic monarch whose reign shaped the Age of Exploration.
