Punxsutawney

Pennsylvania's prognosticating rodent

Punxsutawney is a small town in western Pennsylvania, famous for Groundhog Day celebrations on February 2nd.

According to tradition, if the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil emerges and sees his shadow, six more weeks of winter follow; no shadow means an early spring.

The name comes from a Lenape word meaning "town of the sandflies."
