Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe was an American athlete of Sac and Fox heritage, often called the greatest athlete of the twentieth century.

He won gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympics, played professional football and baseball, and helped found what became the NFL.

His Olympic medals were controversially stripped after it emerged he had played semiprofessional baseball, though they were restored posthumously in 1983.

A Pennsylvania town bears his name.
