farsighted
Seeing distant futures
Farsighted describes a condition in which distant objects are seen more clearly than nearby ones, the opposite of nearsighted.
This literal meaning extends to people who plan wisely for the future: Her farsighted investments paid off decades later.
A farsighted leader anticipates problems before they arise.
The word can also be spelled far-sighted, and the condition itself is called farsightedness.
