Smee
Widgeon or pochard
Smee is the bumbling, loyal first mate to Captain Hook in J.M.
Barrie's *Peter Pan*.
The name has become shorthand for a devoted but incompetent sidekick—someone who follows orders without question but rarely executes them well.
In nautical slang, smee is also a type of wild duck, the smew.
