mentor figure
Guiding elder role
A mentor figure is someone who serves as a guide, teacher, or wise advisor—often to a younger or less experienced person.
The term appears frequently in discussions of narrative and psychology, where mentor figures shape a protagonist's development: Every hero's journey needs a mentor figure.
Unlike a simple teacher, a mentor figure implies a deeper, often paternal or maternal relationship that extends beyond formal instruction.
