Peacock Throne
Mughal imperial seat
The Peacock Throne was the jewel-encrusted seat of Mughal emperors in India, built in the seventeenth century and later seized by Persian invaders.
The name now refers figuratively to the Iranian monarchy: The revolution toppled the Peacock Throne in 1979.
By extension, any extravagantly ornate seat of power.
