Soraya
Iranian royal name
Soraya is a feminine given name of Persian origin meaning "the Pleiades" (the star cluster).
It gained wider recognition through Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary, the second wife of the last Shah of Iran, whose glamorous life and tragic divorce made international news in the 1950s.
The name remains popular in Persian-speaking countries and has spread to Spanish-speaking regions: Soraya was named after her grandmother.
