Northland

Minnesota's arrowhead territory

Northland refers to northern regions generally, or specifically to the far north of a country or territory.

In New Zealand, the Northland is the peninsula at the top of the North Island.

In the United States, northland often describes the upper Midwest, particularly Minnesota: We're heading up to the northland for some ice fishing.

The word carries connotations of cold, rugged terrain, and sparse population.
