Mitre

Defense research organization

A mitre is a tall pointed ceremonial headdress worn by bishops and abbots, split at the top into two peaks.

The word extends to the angled joint where two pieces meet at a corner—a mitre joint, cut at 45 degrees so the pieces form a right angle: The carpenter mitred the frame corners.

As a verb, to mitre is to cut or join at such an angle.

Also spelled miter.
