Koh-i-Noor

Famous Indian gem

Koh-i-Noor is a large diamond, originally from India, now part of the British Crown Jewels.

The name is Persian for "mountain of light." Its history of passing through conquering hands—Mughal emperors, Persian shahs, Sikh rulers, and finally the British Empire—has made it a symbol of colonial plunder, with India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan all claiming ownership.
