sash windows
Vertically sliding frames
Sash windows have one or more movable panels (sashes) that slide vertically or horizontally within a frame.
The classic double-hung sash window has two sashes that slide up and down, counterbalanced by weights hidden in the frame.
Common in British and colonial American architecture: The old house still had its original sash windows.
