Indian reservation

Sovereign tribal territory

An Indian reservation is land set aside by the U.S. federal government for Native American tribes, where tribal nations retain limited sovereignty and self-governance.

Reservations were established through treaties, acts of Congress, or executive orders, often after forced relocations from ancestral lands.

She grew up on a reservation in South Dakota.

The Canadian equivalent is called a reserve.
