land loss
Coastal retreat phenomenon
Land loss is the disappearance or reduction of land area, typically through erosion, flooding, rising sea levels, or subsidence.
The term appears most often in discussions of coastal regions where wetlands and shorelines are shrinking: Louisiana has experienced catastrophic land loss over the past century.
Land loss can also refer to property taken through eminent domain or development.
